Rentable vegetable gardens that were pre-planted and planted for one season are becoming increasingly popular as a source to recreation after the coronavirus pandemic. However, food prices have risen, which has driven up demand.
The national political agenda was triggered by March’s inflation figures, which showed that fresh vegetable prices had risen 15% in one year.
Meine Ernte (“My Harvest”) is a company that rents small plots of land in Germany to city dwellers who want to grow vegetables. This year, the company has increased its stock by one-sixth to 3,500 plots to meet increasing demand.
Natalie Kirchbaumer, co-founder, said that the demand for coronavirus vaccines and the current situation in Ukraine have increased dramatically over the past two years. She spoke at a Berlin garden.

A plot measuring 49 square metres (527 square feet) is available for 229 euros ($241). This includes a short introduction to gardening and fresh produce.
