Six killed in fire at Russian defence research institute
Six people died in a fire at a defence research institute in Tver, Russia. The incident occurred about 160km (100 miles) northwest of Moscow, local authorities were quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.
According to authorities, 27 people were injured. According to TASS news agency, at least 10 people are missing.
Russian social media shared footage of the scene that showed thick smoke rising from the windows of the institute. The cause of the fire was not known.
According to the Russian defence ministry’s website, the institute is involved in aerospace research. This includes the development of a unified air defence system for the CIS bloc, former Soviet republics.
